    Hey All,
so, my sister has a MacBook Pro and an external HDD (she doesnt remember what file system it has, she thinks "Mac OSX Journalized" if that makes sense to anyone. Anyway, it got unplugged by accident while transfering a file. Now it won't pop up on her mac (though mount_hfs shows up in activity monitor), and it doesn't show up on my PC (although the 'found new hardware' and 'hardware ready to be used' bubbles do pop up on my WinXP Home). I've attached a screenshot of my computer management window in case that helps anyone. it shows the HDD as 100% free, but we know that there is a LOT of information on it. It is listed as Disk 2.
Any ideas on how to recover the information??
    Thanks!

Have you tried running Recuva on it? Since your PC sees it, it might work.

thanks. Any chance that it could damage what is still on there? Also, the HDD does not show up in my computer, only in computer management.
    Thanks,

Try right-licking on it in Computer Management and change the drive letter, sometimes that's all it takes to make it show up properly.

I'm going to abandon you now. It's past 3:30 on Christmas Eve, and the holiday has officially started. :) I'll check back in some time... um, after the weekend. LOL

Plug it into a Mac and see if it acts the same way in Disk Utility. You said in your first post it shows up as active/mounted, so your chances of getting the data back may be better on a Mac.

I'll have to try when my sis gets home. The mount_hfs came up but it would not show on the desktop. I'll try DiskUtility when she gets back with her mac (mine is back at school).
    Thanks,
