External monitor issues

Hello, I've just joined because I have an issue with my laptop.

Basically the screen is cracked, that's not my issue, and now I use an external monitor as the screen.
However, whenever I use the laptop now and start it up, it runs the start up process fine on the external monitor yet goes blank for a moment and then says "signal not found" just as the computer get's to the logging in stage. It's really frustrating and hasn't happened to this extent before.

Beforehand when it happened I put the password in and it worked again but that doesn't work anymore. I've tried restoring it to an earlier save point and that hasn't worked and now i am perplexed as to what to do. The only way it works is to use Windows safe mode with networking.

Has anybody got any advice?

First we need your operating system and also the model of the laptop would be helpful.

It's obviously a display issue,at the moment of logon your display settings are loaded,reinstalling the driver or reverting may also have the wrong display selected.

In safe mode download the latest video card driver from the notebook manufacturers website, uninstall the video card driver then run this program and delete files relating to your video card,Restart.

Now install the video driver,you will probably be prompted to restart again so do so and see if your display now works.

 

Thanks. My Laptop is an emachines e625 (crap) and it runs on Windows Vista basic. I'll have a go at what you advised and hopefully it will work.
