External Speakers Stopped Working

Recently, my external speakers (connected to an audio output port) stopped working. I tried two other pairs of external speakers — one of them brand-new, right out of the box — and they don't work either.

But when I plug earphones into the same audio output port, they work fine! Which is especially odd, since the earphones work fine regardless of which audio output device is selected — and Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage audio devices says the earphones aren't even plugged in!

All I want to do is get my regular external speakers working. Any idea of how to do that? Or even something I should look into towards that end?

    Thanks for any help.

In the manage audio devices, have you checked to see if you have any other audio output -(if its a desktop)- I did find one time that I had to direct it to the front audio port on my old desktop, to work.(It had an audio port at the back, too).
    When looking at audio output,
To set audio output device for apps individually in Windows 10, -> Sound. On the right, click on App volume and device preferences under "Other sound options". On the next page, select the desired audio output device for any of the apps that play sounds.
If it's a laptop, you might need to 'add a device' to correct it.
Sorry I cannot think of anything else.
