External Vidio Card for inspiron 6400???

HI hi....

Am looking at using an setting up an external graphics card for my old inspiron 6400


Model MM061 4.00 GB RAM (3.25 usable) Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit operating system

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5300 @ 1.73GHz processor

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 available graphics memory 1535 MB Dedicated graphics memory 128 MB

Dedicated system memory 0 MB Shared system memory 1407 MB hard disk 932 GB

Lappy has an express card slot so would be using a PE4H to connect up a video card like the Nvidia GeForce GTS 450....

Solving the Major problem this old computer has had since the get go > krap graphics...

The buggin problem that is the 3.25 usable ram... This appears to be purely BIOS related ram max???

With installing an external card with 1gb memory will this mean the comp will have 3.25 usable system ram + 1g video ram or

Will the Bios still stick to a 3.25 max thereby taking the extra 1g out of system memory????

Any Positive help or ideas on this would be much appreciated...

 

It depends on if the BIOS can be set to bypass the on-board video and use the USB video exclusively.

In a desktop PC, the motherboard recognizes the insertion of a slot card (PCI, PCI-e or AGP) and will bypass the on-board video.

If you can't disable the on-board video, see if there's an option in the BIOS to reduce the amount of memory it reserves and uses.
