My PC runs fine with 1 gig RAM. But it just occured to me why dont I add in the 512 mb RAM that came with the PC. So I put it in.

Now, my PC restarts for no apparant reason. I can just load the windows and the pc restarts by itself.. or I'm playing game and the PC restarts. I have yet to stay for more than 1 hour without a restart.

What's happening? It cant be the incomptible ram since the 512 came with the PC. It works fine by itself for over a year. Dunno if this is significant or not, but I arrange it such that the 512 is the most left slot, followed by the 1 gig.

There are 4 slots for RAM. 2 by 2. Am I suppsoed to seperate them? Coz I only used up the first two slots.

Did you try to use the 512 card alone???? try this one first

Yea. I used the 512 alone for over a year and it works fine. The 1 gig alone works fine too.

But both of them combined mess up my PC. I also want to mention that with both RAM on, my PC has a lot of errors. Like IE errors, Xfire error, BitComet error, MSN error...

I couldnt stand it so I took out the 512... but it would be nice to have another 512 worth of RAM.

Actually it would not be nice to mess up your computer for 512 of RAM
Any way how many slots of RAM YOU HAVE?

Also when was the last time you have used the 512 alone?

    4 slots in total. 2 by 2.

Um... well it's been more than 6 months since I last used the 512 alone. Do you think the 512 is corrupt?

Is one slot on each bank coloured differently...If so, maybe your mobo supports dual channel, and you should try the 512 in the same coloured slot, on the opposite bank from where you slotted the 1g stick!

See if this makes a difference???

Some mobo's dont like assorted RAM capacities mixed together, nor manufacturing brands, so its either 2x512 or 2x1g (of the same brand)!

To test your RAM for correct functionality...
    Run http://majorgeeks.com/AleGr_MEMTEST_d3257.html
or one you may prefer from here..http://majorgeeks.com/downloads26.html

    Regards...

Try to use it alone right now, the world has gone crazy in the last 6 months
And do not forget feedback :)

Hardware is not really my forté, but try slots 1 and 3 instead of 1 and 2.
Maybe 2 and 4? Let us know the results.
Make sure the RAM "clicks" in, but you know that already. :D Bazza

Thanks for the help guys, but I think my two RAM arent compatible.

I tried out different combination of slots and they dont work. The 512 works alone though.

O well. But I really appreciate the help you guys have given me!

    Check out EVEREST
    Everest Home Edition. www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181

That will tell you what RAM (specs) are installed on your PC.

Check out www.crucial for an on-line scan of your PC.
It will tell you what RAM specs fit your PC and sometimes offers options. Bazza
