    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

In step 4 you are just downloading and installing! You are not running anything.

But is your question about how to open Windows Explorer? If so, there are many ways. One way is to right click Start and select Explore. The window that comes up is Windows Explorer and it allows you to navigate around to all the files and folders on your PC. It is simply a file manager and it is also what is commonly called your Windows Shell.

Please note in your user profile, your picture should either be a real picture of yourself or it should be blank! Anything else will be removed.

o, ok sry, never had that rule in the other 10 forums, i have been on. but that's actualy me >_> j/k.my avy is okay right?(hate breaking rules, make me feel dumb)

ok actually it's the part under getrunkey and shownew, were it says Use Windows Explorer to locate getrunkey.bat and shownew.bat. that's the part im stuck at.

my amanager told me this would help with my sudden slow down in comp speed and all the issues it's been haveing(diff. everytime i open up my profile, sometimes not leting me save images, others let me connect to the internet, etc) and hopefully how my norton will pop up with the same virus constantly no matter how many times i hit okay(only option available).

We are not like other forums! We are more technical and we do have some of our own guidelines and rules we like to follow. We do like to have fun but most of that is in the Lounge :) .

That would be when you run the tools which is not supposed to happen until step 6B. If you get the logs at the wrong point, the information in them will be incorrect when you attach the logs. Either way, may previous message explained how to open Windows Explorer.

o, okay, i know how to open WE. just when i was reading the howto page u posted and it sayed to lacate the file with WE, i was kinda like "how do i open a file with WE?"

so all i have to do is just double click it and it will make the runkey.txt file?

okay so that's what u meant by dont run the scans yet, is dont do taht proccess yet?

Yes! And Yes! The scans must be run in the correct order and in the case of GetRunKey and ShowNew, they are to be run after all the other scans have been complete to avoid showing stuff in the logs that may have already been removed.

Where the READ ME tells you to put it! After extracting it from the ZIP file and renaming it, you should have the below!

    C:\Program Files\HJT\analyse.exe

READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Yes! As I said it is in the READ ME (short for READ & RUN ME FIRST....)

You edited your previous message after I had already posted a reply. Those questions were not there initially when I replied.

No MS MSRT is not a temp file. It remains on your PC unless deleted but it is a normal part of the Windows OS that will be downloaded during various Windows Updates.

    Did you install Windows Defender?

dis is all it said about hijack...Hijack This! – Please do not post HijackThis logs until steps 1 thru 6 are followed and then make sure you follow step 7 to post logs properly as attachments. im not sure what that meant. but that's not important....

about teh other questions, yes i know, i just reminding u/leting u know.

i did see the ms msrt thing after i posted it. that's no problem.

i did instal it with the windowsdefender istal desktop icon, it did the hole thing and said finished but their isn't an icon on my desktop, i ran a search an donly got the installation program.

If you installed it, it should show in your All Programs list and there should be an icon in the system tray.

well it's not in my all programs, and idk what a sytem tray is.

If it was installed properly, it will appear in your All Programs list as Windows Defender. It should be at the end of the list since it was just installed.

The System Tray is the stuff on the bottom right of your screen where the clock and other icons appear. Windows Defender's icon will look like a castle. If you don't see it, then it is either not installed or it is not running.

Once you complete the steps given in the READ & RUN ME and attach the logs that are requested, I will be able to help you more. Until you do this, there is not much else I can do for you.
