I have a question about some extra security software.. It seems that SpywareBlaster and WinPatrol may have been abandoned. Are either one of these two products safe to use anymore ?.

I hadn't heard SpywareBlaster had been abandoned. Its definitions are still being updated as of two days ago. I'd be sorry to see it die away, as I like the program.

I use SAS, but only as a scanner. I run it about once a week, or more often if I feel the need.

I use SAS, Malwarebytes & HijackThis as malware programs.

Slightly older versions of SAS don't have the nag screen

The program hasn't been updated in almost 3 years.
However, everything on the site is up and running.

Along with the apps already mentioned, I would recommend at minimum the free default version of 'CryptoPrevent'!

SAS is the only app i have a subscription and running alongside with (bit-defender free, cybereason free), sometimes they'll offer a good discount for one year.
with the pro version you can turn off any or all of notifications you do not want, i do not get any random popups or notifications so it's like it isn't there an very good on low resource use, does not impact performance.

Some people are like me.Don't want to pay 20 or 50 dollars for a sub for only a one time scan.

i get what you're sayin, but i don't mind the $10 per year subscript for another light nondescript layer of security...just gives me a bit more piece of mind & confidence.

You know what i think is security.Don't download stuff that you think might have a virus.Or don't don't download random torrent stuff that has the biggest virus's attached to them.
