Extracting Big Files

    Hey... I was wondering. Is there anyway to speed up extracting of big files? Like files that is 125MB?

    I'm currently using 7-Zip.

    It takes a while to etract a file, about 2 hours. confused

    Sadly no, this depends on the speed of your PC ( CPU, Memory and Hard Drive ) and 7-Zip is a quick app, some others maybe slower for you.

    You could try http://www.majorgeeks.com/ZipGenius_d4696.html and see if its quicker but as I mentioned the speed of extraction is defined by the speed of your PC.

    I see... So I have to wait longer. :( Anyways... The file that I'm extracting is still extracting. It pass 3 hours already... :( Still the work is not yet done.

    What are your PC's specs? That seems a little excessive, even for older hardware.

    Your hardware types to the below...


    CPU
    Motherboard
    Memory
    Hard Drive
    Graphics Card

    Windows Version

    eg. for CPU it could be an Intel P4 2.4ghz

    I know your going to ask me this.. and how to find this info you can use the free Everest



    Did you extraction finish? and how long it finally take, as Mada said it does seem excessive but its linked to PC speed and having too many background tasks running at once using all the CPU time up, so if extracting a file on an old PC, close all running tasks... one thing that will slow the extraction down is your Antivirus, as it will be scanning the extraction for malware, however you would not want to turn your AV off.
