    Hi there,

Please if you can help me with this extremely annoying thingy...

Well, basically I cannot get rid of these blue backgrounds on the desktop.

I always had it transparent(without any colour), but today my daughter was on pc, and as she can remember, while saving some photo, xp asked her kind of like “do you want active desktop... or something” and, as a result I have now these blue backgrouns.

I did try everything I can think of, but no luck – please if someone knows the solution, I’ll be more that grateful.

Finally – pc is working just fine, and there are no any problems.

    Thank you. Regards. D

Hm to take it off you can try right clicking with mouse on destop-scroll over to arrange destop icons by - then scroll over and un click lock web items on destop. I know thats a way of making them marked.

Right click on empty part of desktop. Select properties, then under themes select Windows Classic, should get rid of blue boxes.:)

    Hi Brandy,

yes i agree with you - but its "classic" view. the point is to make it "xp" view but without this background color (well, i had it as this on this pc for years, and the funnies thing is that i have few more pc's and laptops, and all the setup is the same - so i cannot norrow why now here is as it is)

extremely annoying - what i cannot see here?

Have you tried the other settings under the themes drop down box. If nothing else, a system restore prior to your daughter's use should put things back to where they were easily enough.

System restore doesn't affect your data. Unless you are talking about other changes you've made.
Yes, this should be solved with the properties and, at least on my computer, windows classic theme is the only one without the blue boxes.

i did restore and its the same (i did some updates this afternoon for vwd, and thats the reason i was saying about restore)

but i did it, and no diference...

i did have all without colour for years - my doughter said that while saving this photo today xp ask her "doas she want active desktop... something" - she cannot remember of course...

    any idea...

thank you very much for halping me... i know this is "not a problem" per say... (there are other much more important issues) but i simple cannot figurs out how small akward problem can drive me mad...

You can try going to my computer - properties-advance- settings button in the performances section - scroll to bottom and check(use drop shadows for icon labels on desktop) If this dont work try getting doing this next step then going back up to the top.

Also sometimes it wont get drop shadows to work if the desktop is active. So if you dont get it to work by doing the top suggestion they you can try right clicking desktop -select properties-select the desktop tab- click customize desktop - now select the web tab-this shows a list of all web content on your desktop and un check all the boxes on this page then click okay and that should do it. If nothing then these are just suggestions.

Here's a link to a microsoft article on enabling/disabling active desktop.

Although it really seems like a system setting that should have been taken care of with a restore.

hi silas - its working on your way...
the catch was what you have suggested for “web-tab”; however, it didn’t work with check/uncheck options “use drop shadows for icon labels on desktop”, but rather like this: select first option “for best performace” and them “lets windows choose…”

all of these tried before, and didn’t worked – so your “web-tab” did the trick – well done.

thank you very much… I cannot belive that I have “played” hours with this ridicilus issue… (well, this is the school – never let anyone in front of your toy)

thank you once more. regards. d
