F Drive problem, help please

Right guys, first off apologies, this is most likely not on the right section of the forum but it was hard to find one that seemed close to the problem!

Anyways, The only thing I know about an F Drive is that when I plug my MP3 player into the cpu it shows under 'My Computer' as Removable Disk and from there I load and unload the songs. Probem is that all of a sudden it doesn't appear anymore under my computer or anywhere else that I can see when I plug the MP3 in! I had this problem before with a USB storage pen thingy but when I bought the MP3 after that it just appeared as Rem.Disk.

It plugs in, as I'm sure you know via a USB cable and the MP3 itself is like a USB storage pen model if you know what I mean. It can plug str8 in but the cpu is very old and USB at the back wont fit the MP3 direct as my USB modem connection is beside it and not enough room, hence, I plug in using the USB cable (Dont know if this makes a difference!)

So basically, the cpu isn't picking up the removable disk/F Drive from what I can see.

I'm running windows 98SE and as you've no doubt guessed, am no technical wizard to say the least.

Any help on how to get the cpu to detect the MP3 would be great. Thanks.

 

Have you tried going to the make of your mp3 players website, and seeing if they have any drivers? Specifically for Windows 98?

 

Does it show up in the device manager? If not, try running Hardware Detection and see if it finds it.

 

I have 2 MP3's that are similar although differet makes. One has a driver CD which I have ran and makes no difference!

The MP3 does not show up in the device manager.
