Hi, has anyone here used both F.lux and ColorVeil? Because I'm wondering whether ColorVeil would render F.lux unnecessary?

I currently have F.lux on my system, plus I also have the screen dimmed to the max, yet still experience something similar to snowblindness when using my computer. In other words, if I use computer for a period of time (whilst my eyes get dryer & dryer), then eventually the screen turns white (for me) as if text disappeared from the screen.

Of significance, is that one of the ophthalmologists i'd seen, had jotted in my notes "spheroid degeneration" albeit he was uncommunicative, as most of them are. I have zero doubt that if Pixel Qi (e-paper tech) were widely available in a 15" size screen minimum, then that would help me alot. Because for me, a lighted screen is definitely similar to sun glaring on snow.

    P.S. Explanation:
My system is very slow, so as it is, it takes forever for F.lux and Avira and FireFox to start up - and FF won't open until F.lux and Avira have finished initializing.
So just imagine if/when ColorVeil would be added. That's why it may be prudent to have either/or. (Either Flux or ColorVeil)

Running both f.lux and ColorVeil will cause a conflict because the programs basically have the same function.

I see. So which of the two is preferable? Have you tried them? Thanks.

Hi, I don't believe SunsetScreen substitutes for Color-veil, but rather for F.lux.

However, can SunsetScreen work normally with color-veil? (i.e. on a slow system?

Note that Color-Veil was recommended to me by an Irlen Syndrome expert, which is how I found out about it. Not that I have Irlen, but rather spheroid degen. But oftentimes in life, one solution can resolve varying issues.

I would not use 2 such similar programs at the same time and therefore cannot correctly advice you.

Why don't you run both and see how it works out.

If you are on windows 10 there is a function now in settings called night light which does the same thing.

Update - I'd decided to remove F.lux, but didn't yet get around to installing ColorVeil.
I'm still on XP (shocking, yeah, I know). It's all been due to my worry about EMFs, and never sure whether multi-core systems and/or tiny screens might agree with me, and with my eyes. My sensitive anatomy has been rapidly betraying me over these past decades.

And that's aside from wanting compatibility with my old HP1010-series laser printers, and external keyboard & mouse.

    I avoid small screens.

The HP 1010 is Windows XP compliant.
Start a new thread and outline your problem(s) with the printer (and keyboard & mouse).
