"Facebook started rolling out a new tool in April 2019. Under updated procedures, the social media website would request ID verification for people who wish to advertise or promote political posts or ads. The announcement received very little publicity, but it can be interpreted as Facebook’s latest attempt to curb Russia’s anticipated interference in EU elections and prepare to manage any meddling in the 2020 US presidential elections."
And this is a bad thing because????

    I merely asked...
In South Africa identity theft is a major problem.
Giving your ID number to a social networking site, for whatever reason, is madness.

Are you planning on posting political ads, Eldon? It doesn't apply to just regular for sale or for rent ads. :)

I have a minimal interest in politics. I came across the article (dated 2019-05-11) while looking at the final results of South Africa's election.
And if I wanted to sell something, I would post on Gumtree South Africa.
I deactivated my Facebook account last year.

Never been into Facebook - never found it secure - so always steered away from it.
