I want to do a factory reset on my Dell with Vista on it. One day it said the key code was invalid, so I bought windows 7 but I can't figure out how to install it.

Usually a factory reset is done from an image in a partition on the hard drive. This restores everything to when the computer was new, including Dell utilities and all the drivers. Or, a recovery CD was supplied when the computer was new. If you install Windows 7 it will be a fresh install - only Windows 7 will be installed - none of the Dell programs that were there when the computer was new will be installed. If you can't do a factory reset then your only option is to do a fresh install. To do this you need to go into the BIOS to make the computer boot from the CD drive, then boot up with the Windows 7 CD in the CD drive. I hope that helps!

P S There are programs which can retrieve the license number.
