I want to reformat a friends computer so she can give it to her sister. I think the reformat occured, but during the reinstall of XP, it shut down windows and left a message with the phrase "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". This is all the info I have right now. I don't even have any specs on the machine. I won't be able to get back over there for a few days. I appreciate any help.

Microsoft's TechNet has a page on that error message that is worth reading. You'll find it here.

And if you'll google the error message (with the quotes, just as you wrote it in your first post), you'll get a number of other hits. Some of them also look interesting.

(BTW -- it's apparent that you took the care to quote the error message exactly as it appeared. Congrats -- it's amazing how many folks don't bother to do that.)
