I have an older ASUS P4PE MOBO I built out. System has been running fine with 500Mb of PC2700 DDR 184pin RAM. Decided to upgrade and throw a couple GIG in.. Just to be on thesafe side I ran the crucial RAM scan online and ordered the sticks it sid.

now when I try and put the sticks in I get the lovely POST voice telling me "computer failed to boot, CPU is overclocked".. CPU boots into Bios first and it does see the 1Gig chip but it wont boot

I have tried both new 1 Gig sticks and both do the same thing.. I have tried a new 1 Gig stick with the old 512 stick and get the same thing. Have tried maunually turning down the CPU clocking in the Bios to its lowest setting and same same..

Put the old 512 stick back in and everything works great ?? I was reading somewhere that I might have to reflash my bios but I just loaded the new bios up so I really dont think that is an issue.

Any suggestions are, as usual, greatly appreciated. :)

Well let's use this article and try some settings in BIOS:

    ASUS P4PE Review

Your MOBO is only capable of "2Gb" of RAM so lets try only the 2 new modules.

Open the first Image so it is enlarged. At the top please set the "CPU Speed" to Auto (allow it to define the FSB and Multi). Also with the "Memory Frequency" please set this to Auto. At the Bottom we can see the option for Chip Configuration please go into there and set "SDRAM Configuration" to By SPD. Save this and try and boot up. If this doesnt work then I would try to increase DDR Reference Voltage by 0.1v and try and boot up again.
