I appear to have some program that failed to install. :cry Unfortunately the popups don't give much of a clue as to what the program was. This continually pops up at Startup, and sometimes later at random intervals.

I'd like to get rid of it. (see thumbnails)

    Any advice appreciated. Bazza

It looks very much like a leftover from something you no longer have, CCLEANER might get rid of it for you.I use ashampoo uninstaller for this type of thing, to find leftover files.

Thanks baklogic, but I've run every program in my arsenal of PC housekeeping tools including CCleaner, Cleanup!, Advanced Windows Care, etc., on various days with no results. :cry Bazza

Thanks, but I'm running Office 2000. The link refers to Office XP or later (2003, etc.). :cry

My Office 2000 is running OK. I use the Excel portion daily. No probs with Office 2000 (I think).

The annoying part of the error messages is that they don't give a hint as to what program failed to install (typical MS, take you halfway then abandon you). Bazza

Thinking further, maybe I'll try my MS Office 2000 CD anyhow, and see what happens. Baz

Have you looked in event viewer to get a clue? Uninstallation of some programs , as you know can make errors - Last time I had one like that, I rember trying sfc /scannow, but I can't remember if it was that that fixed it.

Checking out my Event Viewer, the following appears for the error. (see thumbnail).

    I've visited the MS link
but they say "thanks for sending us this error, but we can't help". So I'm still stuffed. Bazza

Next time the error pops up, I'll try scannow, and original XP Pro, and Office 2000 and PCU Utilities CD/DVD's to see if the installer can find what didn't install properly. Bazza

I've been tempted to go back to my old "Lurch" avatar, but this headbanger suits me lately. :D ;) :) Bazza

    Hola Bazza

Have another look at event viewer. It is a thousand times more embellished in Vista, you may be looking at the wrong node.

    ;)

Checked out various warnings (see thumbnails). They relate to HP. I've not fiddled with anything HP, for ages. Bazza

When I tried to remember what I did, I went back to Microsoft site, with
'windows installer failing loop', and it forwarded me to that link,
