Actually surprised no one has made a thread abot this yet but oh well.

Hopefully picking a copy up later today, if it came in, the local game shop owes me $207 for traded 360 games but they seem a little reluctent to order anything for me, I think they would rather me just buy from the store, but anyway....

Big fan of Fallout, F3 is possibly the biggest and one of the best games I've ever played even with all it's little bugs.

Been reading lots on New Vegas and it kind of makes me laugh the way people are complaining that it's just more of Fallout 3, one such user review stated
Personally I have been hoping for exactly that, the Fallout 3 formular worked so well, why change it.
From what I can see the graphics have been lightly polished which IMO is a good thing because if they "uber polished" it then it would probably take a beast PC of biblical proportions to run it.
Aparently they have also changed the Perk system to 1 new perk every 2nd level up instead of every one.
The bugs and glitches are still intact but you know what, in 6 hours of gameplay in Fallout 3 it CTD's around 5-10 times, this bothers me not because it's a good enough game to ignor it and just restart the game, you just have to learn to save frequently.

The only complaint I have at the moment (bare in mind I havn't actually played it yet) is the reintroduction of the "Game end" once the main story is complete, something they patched in Fallout 3.
But again this doesn't bother me since the main quest once again is only a very small part of the game, so I figure I will do the same as I did with F3 and just play the main quest to near the end and then go off and do other stuff ignoring the main quest to enjoy the wasteland world.
And they have added an "Aim Down Sight" mode.... :strong the only thing F3 was missing.

So I'm greatly looking forward to it, more of the same with new NPC's, weapons, monsters, quests and a giant new map.....perfect!

Will post my actual findings in a couple of days after getting to grips with it.

Any comments from those who have or havn't played it welcome. :)

Well so far as expected, it's Fallout 3 with new everything, map, charaters, weapons etc etc
A few new additions, the Aim Down sight already mentioned works very well.
They have also added the ability to harvest plants to get ingredients for a wealth of "potions" (for want of a better word) that have a wide variety of uses, most notably early on is the health powder/potion which is made from readily available plants, you just stop at a campfire that are spread around the map and cook up a batch of whatever you have the stuff to, although your science skill needs to be at certain levels for each recipe.
Also added is the old workbench from Fallout 3 with the addition of being able to fix your weapons with parts or special items and with empty shells you buy/find you can make ammo for just about any weapon... again providing you have the ingredients and skill.

Also added is varied ammo types such as armor piercing and hollow point bullets.
Weapons can now be upgraded when you find/buy items such as scopes and silencers.

A new difficulty has been added named "Hardcore Mode", in this mode your ammo adds to your weight, you need to find and drink water often, weapons degrade faster etc... this mode reads like a gaming nightmare but you can switch back and forth at any point between the 2 settings, although it offers the choice at the start and tells you if you play it through on Hardcore you will get a reward.

Other than that it's just a whole load more of Fallout 3, obviously you are a different person but the menu's, engine and UI are all the same.

If you enjoyed Fallout 3 then I really don't see how you couldn't enjoy this, if you've never played Fallout then try it... if you didn't like F3 then chances are you wont like this.

Personally it's exactly what I was hoping for, sure it would be nice to see a bit higher qality graphics and a bit more detail in the world but it's far from off putting, it's slightly more polished than F3 but not much.

Bottom line is there is a mass of quests, missions and all sorts to keep you entertained for god knows how many hours.

So far I rate it a little higher than Fallout 3 simply because the additions are very welcome, it also seems much more stable, 4 hours of play and not CTD, a few frame drops here and there but nothing major.

All in all I think it's awesome! :strong

What are you playing it on? I have an E8500 Core 2 Duo, a GTX 260 with latest driver, 4GB RAM, and Windows 7 64-bit, and after a weekend of shutting down the computer every 30-45 minutes, I gave up and reinstalled the game. Now it won't launch. At all.

The launcher comes up, I click "play", UAC comes up and asks for permission to run the program, I click "yes" and it goes straight back to the launcher. the game has gone from "playable with crashes once an hour"to "unplayable". I spent all day yesterday going over the "basics": verify file integrity, defragment game cache, reinstall, update drivers, et cetera... nothing.

Note that I'm not talking about crash to desktop. I'm talking about shutting down the computer and needing to hit the power button to start back up. I'm a bit worried actually... that can't be good for my poor computer. :(

I'm still running my same rig..

    AMD Athlon X2 6000+ (3.1)
    3GB Ram
    ATI HD4890 2GB vapor x
    Drivers probably 4-5 months old.
    Win 7 32 bit.

I'm a good 25+ hours into it and I think I had it bug out once where I couldn't see my weapons when holding them, so I restarted, other than that it's been stable as can be.

Only thing I may have done differently to you is installed the update patch, couldn't tell you why I did I just happend to read about it before I got the game so I installed the patch before I even fired it up.

Maybe if you uninstall and clean up (want me to explain how to do that? :p ) and then reinstall it and then the patch before you fire it up, can't really think of anything else you could try.

I must admit I do get some heavy frame drops once in a while, usually if I'm on the strip at night or in a busy place, I have all settings maxed as well so it's more likely that than a bug.

Game fully patched, and uninstalled with Revo and other fun stuff multiple times. Last reinstall I did it with the AV turned off, patched with the AV turned off, and then downloaded and applied the dll-fix for nVidia cards from newvegasnexus. That did to wonders to smoothen things and increase FPS.

Now it runs, but crashes every 3-45 minutes. I have to set the launcher and the main exe to run as Administrator for the game to launch at all though...

I've done some online "research" by reading forums and blogs, and from what I can tell, the people who have problems all have nVidia 200 or 400 cards... and the game runs on my ATI-powered laptop without any noticable issues so far. Given Bethesda's history with nVidia, this probably shouldn't surprise me. It's pissing off my better half to no end though, since he's the one using that desktop as his main gaming system. I'm just going to keep playing it on the laptop.

    Man that sucks.

What do you think of it so far?

Now I've got well to grips with it I only have a few negetive points.

1: No place to buy, like a home that you can have a camp fire outside, a workbench and rearming station inside, not a big one but would have been nice.

2:Lack of possibilities to repair clothing such as cowboy hats, certain ones are hard to find, would be nice if there was an NPC that repairs it. Also the ability to repai your own armor and clothing would have been good, I mean at work benches using scrap metal or leather pelts etc.

3: More catagories in the PipBoy, like seperating the ammo cases, powder etc into it's own catagory to help keep things tidy, when you have a whole load of stuff for different uses all filed under "Misc" it can take a while to sift through it to figure out what you want and what you don't.

4: A symbols or marker for each Quest telling you wether it's a main quest or side quest and then listed into maybe types of quest.

5: Split colours of waypoint markers so you can easily tell which is which without having to bring up the map.

Thats about it really, all very minor and were actually things I was pretty much hoping for since F3, I can't list Pro. points because that would take too long ;)

I really just started last night, and I've still got a long ways to go in Dragon Age Awakening that I want to finish before getting sucked into another RPG, but based on what The Guy has been saying, New Vegas actually manages to capture the mood and atmosphere of the original Fallout games. That makes me very happy. :)

If he didn't love the game, he'd be a lot less upset about the crashing. ;)

Oh, and you do realize that a lot of your negative points can be, er, adjusted, right? Newvegasnexus.com is your friend. :)

Yeah but you know what, it seems almost every time I get started into mods , something goes wrong lol, I may look into them at some points, used to use them on Oblivion but messed up my F3 using them and kind of put me off.

I really should get bck into Dragon Age at some point, I started it and got a few hours in and then another game came along I wanted to play more lol

In the interest of full disclosure I should mention that whenever I exit out of New Vegas I get the "application has encountered an error" message/crash. But this happens to me whenever I have modded a game, so I don't really pay attention to it anymore. :)

Speaking of mods... allow me to present a couple of screenshots for comparison.
