Fan Controllers

I am installing an Aerocool Gatewatch to watch temps and control a few fans in my rig. I have a stock (case) fan that has (2) 4pin molex plugs on the end. Is one of these plugs made to connect to my gatewatch? If so I would need to buy a 4 pin molex to 3 pin fan plug adapter. Is this how I rig the fan to be speed controlled manually?

 

yup, u got it right. you gotta buy the adapters, but the gatewatch may come with them. my vantec controller came with 3 adapters

 

Also found out by talking to the Gatewatch people that the fans must be the 3 wire type. The extra wire is for the tach. You just wont be able to control the fans if they are not 3 wire.

 

Nah that's not really true. Im using 2-wire fans and with the adapter Im controlling them just fine. You just cant monitor the RPMs without the yellow wire. you can control the speed but just wont be able to monitor the RPMs without the yellow wire like i mentioned above. fan controllers work by adjusting the voltage to the fans so it doesnt need the yellow wire to change the speed
