I think i have a problem with my computers fan. The problem started when i opened up my comp to see if it had slots for memory. So how would i be able to fix this?. How would i be able to tell if the fan is in right etc?.

Is it running? Does it need to be cleaned out? They are usually held down with small screws and have a small power cord to the motherboard ...

I tried cleaning it with a q-tip earlier, yes it is running but it may not be attached right etc.

Not attached right? Did you check the screws? Gently.

It could be the screws, i had problems getting them all back into the right spot after i opened it up. How would i know which go to which?.

Sorry, i meant with my fan, not fans. I think its my fans anyways, since i haven't installed any new hardware on it. So i don't think its the psu. Also, the side panel seems to be messed up, i probably mixed up the screws when closing it. Are there pictures of the back of an emachines t6420 so i can know which screws are which, and which go where?.

ok, lemme reword that....what is wrong with your computer that makes u suspect the fan? or...just what is wrong with the fan?

Oops, i forgot to say. My computer freezes while playing games or not suddenly. It just freezes out of the blue, mouse and screen freezes. But i haven't installed any new hardware to suspect it being the psu. This started happening after i opened up my computer. I'm currently still having problems trying to get it fully closed up (the side panel and screws into the right place). Does this sound like the psu?. And how could it be if all i've done is run diffrent programs?.

well, maybe keep the door off and try it. if it still freezes then its probably a hardware problem. doesnt sound like ur PSU is bad, maybe (if u have one) the fan on your video card is stopped or not working properly. Download Speedfan, check ur temps, and post them :D

Carefully (making sure you are well grounded) make sure all your cards and cables are securely connected like they should be. While figuring out what screw goes where, don't force it. If it doesn't go in easily, try another screw. Definately do not overtighten.

You also said you didn't think your fan was re-installed correctly? What was done to it and why? Again, since temps seem fine, speculating the fan is the cause of lockups becomes less likely. Possibly the PSU? but wouldn't that cause complete reboots?

Sounds like it's time to clean up your computer. Try going through the Malware Removal procedures. Since temps seem fine, it rules out a dirty pc.

Someone recently had also posted a help thread, I thought it was called "How to speed up your PC". It showed how to clean up your pagefiles, additional temp files, and a few other nice tricks. Don't know what happened to that link though.

I never removed the fan, and i think thats been ruled out, viper said that the temps looked out from SpeedFan. It could be hard to find out which go where since some are thumbscrews and some are tiny screws. Whats a good anti-malware so i could rule that out?.

Thumbscrews are almost definately for the rear of your case to secure the side panel.

I don't understand why you think/thought something was wrong with your fan. You had said you has problems getting the screws back to secure the fan. Why were the screws removed in the first place?

Anyway, try checking all the connections (with power off/disconnected) to make sure they're secure. whether problems still exist or not, you should run through the Malware removal steps as it will help clean up unnecessary clutter loaded in your computer.
