I'm new to this so hope I will be able to get back here to view answer.

I have had computer case off computer for a couple of days now and the computer has been running a lot of the time. I have noticed the fan has not come on at all. The area of the fan seems warm. Is there a free program I can d/l and install that will monitor the temperature? Is there a way I can connect the fan to run all the time, or isnt that necessary? It's a Pentium III, 497 MHz, 256 RAM. Also, please tell me what the temp range should be for this computer. Please email me at ddragon2@rochester.rr.com if I do not comment on this posting within a couple of days.

    Thank you ahead of time.

Wow. I was looking at the computer, the way it was set up, etc.
I saw a "covering" below the floppy drive and a probe below that that looked kinda like maybe it was a type of thermometer. I took off the "covering", and the fan kicked in immediately. It stayed on for about 5 minutes....and then turned off. I feel the area where I said it seemed quite warm, and now it is not warm since the fan must have cooled it off.

I'll watch the computer to see if the fan kicks in again as it gets warmer.

Still would like to know if there is a free program that can monitor the temperature.
And still would like comments on all of this.

And I was able to get back to this forum/post because I haven't left it since I posted. LOL

try speedfan... not only does it monitor temps but also ur fans.. but im not sure if u r having any problems since a 400mhz pc doesnt need that much cooling anyways.. BUT u shouldnt fiddle around with it while it is plugged in and running, for your own and the computers safety
