It appears I now have a FanBox account. To the best of my recollection, I never asked for such and I definitely have no need of another e-account of any kind. So far I have found nothing on their site dealing with deleting an account. Any advice any would care to offer about where to look for info about deleting a FanBox account, or a more appropriate place to post a question about such will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

    Hi

I would contact their support and ask to be removed as it does on a quick look seem easy to remove yourself that I could see in 20mins of looking,

Thanks DavidGP. Appreciate your taking time to consider and respond to my post. After posting to MG, I posted similarly to support@corp.fanbox.com as you suggested. My thinking is that the response from someone who has been thru the procedure would be more accurate and helpful then any response from FanBox. Appreciate your Help, K.

Yeah K, do let us know how you get on.

I should have typed "doesnt seem easy to remove" in my original post, New Year drinkies must have affected my typing finger.

Did have another search on the net today for other users getting tons of emails from FanBox and maybe this will help you http://techcrunch.com/tag/fanbox/

This morning my contact to http://corp.fanbox.com/contactus.php brought me:

"In order to delete your account please follow the steps below:

    • From your Profile or Homepage click on "Account" in the top right corner
    • From the drop down menu select "Account Settings"
    • Make sure the "My Account" section is expanded
    • Select "Delete My Account"
    • Select a reason for deleting your account
    • Click on "Delete My Account"

Once the above steps are completed then your account is deleted from our system. Please note, however, that clicking on a link to access the account again or to "make sure it's deleted" will reactivate the account."

The instructions are followed, but because of their notice, "Please note, however, that clicking on a link to access the account again or to "make sure it's deleted" will reactivate the account" I guess I'll never know if my account is truly gone.

I think I figured out how I got infected by FanBox. Several times over the past 6-8 months, I received: 'friend's eddress' wants you see this tiny youtube video. Launch.

The eddress was correct, but each time I clicked on 'Launch', the first screen asked for personal info, my email address if I remember correctly. In the past I always clicked out without providing any info. This time I noticed a 'Skip' at the bottom. So for each screen I selected 'Skip' without providing any of the requested info. At the end I never found anything about playing the video, but they had set up an account under my eddress.

From now on, every time I see anything about "FanBox" or "Tiny YouTube" I plan to turn and run!

    Thanks DavidGP, appreciate your help.
    K

    Hi

Personally its rare I click any link that I dont actually know what it is, even if its off a friend or work colleague, so not joke pages, links to cute kitties and dogs etc

But depending on what Email Client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird etc)you use, or online email service (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc) then you can use rules/filters to send spam and emails with trigger words to the bin directly, so words like FanBox etc

A guide HERE on Windows Live Mail

    Gmail Online pages HERE

    Thunderbird HERE

    Outlook HERE and HERE

*may need to look up the version of software email client you are using and/or the version of Outlook as I have just linked to the first ones I found in my list of guides, as an example.

I use rules all the time both in work and home, really does start to cut down the spam that the email services miss, so over time you can weed out most of it.

Yes DavidGP, I too make it a habit to not open anything “that I dont actually know what it is, even if its off a friend or work colleague, so not joke pages, links to cute kitties and dogs etc.” I even go so far as to first go to my providers page and review the subject lines and delete everything there that looks like junk mail, or that somehow looks questionable – except this time. Hopefully this will turn out to be an inexpensive learning experience. Thanks for the links. K.

    Hi K

No problems and if you have decide to try out rules based filtering pop a new thread into the Software part of the forum here and we can assist you.
