fast broadband suddenly timing out every time

I have been making good use of my BT Broadband internet for 3 months and all of a sudden it has slowed to a crawl - slower than dial up and needs at least 2 attempts to open anything.
How can I check to see if I am being hijacked or what is happening to me?
On occasions it will open the page I want. My ISP help program says I am successfully connected, no problems

 

This may sound like a silly question but have you tried to shut down your modem, unplug it for a few minutes and restart everything from scratch?
Have you tried a different computer? If all your hardware is good to go, then I would start looking at spyware/adware to see if you got something nasty downloaded.

 

Thanks for advice. Will attempt unplugging option first. Then go for the long, fiddly haul.

 

Hi kittee As you posted this in Networking your best option here is to first troubleshoot your modem, Ethernet card and cables to make sure it isn't a hardware or network configuration problem as there are many issues that can cause problems such as you describe.

If everything checks out, please start a new thread in the spyware forum AFTER you have gone through the READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal thread. When starting your new thread in spyware please include information about your operating system along with results of the scans or any problems you encountered.
