i was cruising on firefox checking my mail and downloading a audio book, when the book finished downloading 2 things happened 1 was a old enemy(a fakespyware/virus called xp guardian) and the 2nd was my avg going nuts, detecting multiple threats, i clicked to remove the infections and was about to google instructions out how to remove xp guardian when my computer froze, i reboted and now i get bsod on the windows load screen, and it instantly restarts, bsod is visible for less than a second before rebooting, same issue with safe mode, and i cant do a xp repair becuase ive lost my admin password(even though i dont recall making one) so i ask is there anyway to fix this without having to blank my drive with a fresh install of xp? any help is appreciated and il give any additional info if requested, ty for your time

I've only just found out about this myself... but this might be able to help you if you still have the original XP CD (don't think you'll need admin password): http://www.ubcd4win.com .

It's a stripped down version of Windows that boots from a CD (so is unaffected by any viruses or corruption in your main Windows installation), and includes anti-virus, disk checking utilities etc. Hope that helps :)

ubcd4win requires a windows cd to build the boot disk. There are other tools out there to reset admin passwords (have you tried leaving the admin password blank? )

you can try using ubcd (ultimate boot cd, similar concept as ubcd4win, only it's dos, and more reliable)
it contains something called Offline NT password and recovery, which might help reset the admin password.

your problems are probably related to malware, and one or more of your critical windows files may have been corrupted/deleted while cleaning. A windows cd is probably your only option to get it working enough (without a BSOD) to run the malware removal steps here:

If you can get a windows cd from a friend or family member, you can try booting into the recovery console (after getting the password situation fixed) and running the command chkdsk /p at the prompt.

luckily i still had my xp disk laying around, i was able to borrow my friends laptop to burn ubc4win, ive ran all the antivirus and antimalre programs(they found 10 all together) and now im running memtest, im fairly sure a windows componet want damaged becuase im getting the same problem, and i see nothing on ubc4win that fixes that, and ive tried leaving my admin pass blank with no luck, what should be my next step? i could just dump everything to my slave hdd and do a reinstall unless someone here has a better idea

i just ran a checkdisk utilty from ubcd4win, it ran in the command prompt, it found several errors and repaired them, but i still get bsod on boot up, i need to find a way in ubcdwin to either repair the damaged windows componets or reset my admin pass so i can do it from my xp disk any suggestions or ideas?
