Fast Shutdown/Restart

Hey I made one of those nifty shortcuts that auto shutdown/restart your pc (using the shutdown -s -t 0 thing). Anyway I set it to a keybored shortcut so its like, ctrl-alt-s or whatever. Only prob is, it seems to only sometimes work, and the sometimes it works is right after I make it. I havn't played with it much yet but it seems like I have to make a new shortcut for it to work again. Any ideas?

 

I've noticed a lot of shortcuts that are for actualy Windows stuff only work when an OS component is active. If the last thing you clikced was the taskbar or the desktop, it will work. If you're in MS Word, that program seems to trap it before it gets passed to the OS shortcut handler.

I really wish they'd let us make shortcuts with the <Windows> key.

 

Yea that's what I thought, you had to click the desktop or whatever. Just tried it again, no dice

EDIT: Does anyone know where windows keeps the restart icon? It keeps the shutdown and log out ones in the default spot but I can't find the restart one.

 

Shutdown and Restart shortcuts (Win 98SE)

Try these. They work for me in 98SE

Shutdown

C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE User.exe,exitwindows

Restart

C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE User.exe,exitwindowsexec

PS:- Note the comma after user.exe and the space after rundll.exe
