faster if moved all data to external drive?

would it help or be useless to my computer's speed and security to move all files(word, videos, music) to a external drive?

 

it all depends on how much extra room you have on your current hard drive. If you have all that and there is still plenty of room on your hard drive, then it won't speed it up. There are other things to do to get it a bit faster. you might want to check out this post:

so I'm assuming that no, it won't make much of a difference, if any, because I have so much free memory

I always have Java and quicktime start up, do I need those?
I use java to play at pogo.com, but that's it. as far as I know

i don't think java is starting up, just it's updater, which you don't need, and same with quicktime, but those probably arent giving you problems.

 

I'm assuming that 5 gb partition is for recovery. If you'd like you can post the spec's of your computer, and maybe we can see what might be slowing you down...you can use everest to attach a report on your hardware if you'd like:
