I'd download it, but there is no vital need for it because you could manually tweak the settings as desired.

If you want it done without a hassel and in a mere second, get it. If you know what you're doing and would like to take your time to change the settings, do it that way.

I concur. I use it because I am lazy and do not feel like going through about:config and seeing what I can ruin.:) I cannot say that I notice a super difference though. I think machine specs and things running in the background have a lot to do with it.

Some say yes some say no. I did for a while then when I upgraded firefox I didn't. If u have a newer pc or bought one of the average models in the last 2 years or maybe 3 u could benefit. If ur pc is older, like the one I'm on now, it could hurt ur speed. Add ram to help too but recall that fasterfox saves links pages and the page ur on in ur cache so if u got an older pc this could slow u down, esp. if u got less ram. Try it though, and see for urself, cause it can be uninstalled. I did.

I agree with the previous posts. I personally saw no difference at all on browsing speeds, within firefox.

I did, oddly enough. Actually, its more how the page renders, all at once, instead of piece by piece.

K-meleon doesn't use it and seems faster to me, so I'm using that more than FF these days.

Hrm, I don't see this, thought, perhaps I'm use to this.

    Placebo effect? :)

Maybe. K-Meleon is a lighter browser, and as such, it appears to load pages extremely quick.

I've read several instances of people getting IP bans because of high prefetching speeds, but maybe that's something you can avoid. I used the extension for a short time, and I didn't really notice a difference, but maybe that's because I already fiddled with some of the about:config settings. :p
I use FireTune for optimizing speed and such, which I think works well.

I think FireTune is a better alternative, Fasterfox actually slows down some systems: http://majorgeeks.com/FireTune_d4534.html

Even better is to apply tweaks manually, one at a time, so you can see the effect of each one and decide if it's helping. There's a good guide to tweaking Firefox here :

At least, there was; testing the link just now the connection timed out. I hope the problem's only temporary, I'll leave the link in hopes that they're back soon.

If, that link doesn't work: 3rd party builder Mmoy has a performance prefs page: http://www.vector64.com/PerfPrefs.html (access through "about:config)

My tweaks are slightly different for dial-up.....but, the page is a good starting point for experimenting. IMO
