The client that you use in dependent upon your processor type as well as your operating system

They are all available from Stanford Folding@Home Downloads

If you need any help deciding, just let us know what processor and operating system you are running :)

changing your CPU will not be an issue, the clients listed below are suitable for all processors.

The fastest final release client would be the:

    Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista text-only console (with built-in Windows-service-install option) 5.04

However a lot of people prefer to start off using:

    Windows 2000/XP/Vista Graphical client 5.03

just because it is more user friendly.
You can always complete a couple of 'work units' just to get the hang of it and then upgrade to the text-only console later on

Installation instructions for both clients are next to the download links
    Further instructions are available here:
So you want to "Fold" Instructions for the "Novice"

    Good luck :)

I have two instances running, one as a service and one as Console, one on each core on my X2 3800. If you do go this route, watch your temps at first. Happy folding!

What do you have the 'CPU Usage Percent' slider set to ?

The best results are gained from setting the usage to 100%

The clients are very well behaved, and when needed they readily allow any other process running on your computer to utilise as much of the processor as needed.
If you have the slider set to 100% it will not interfere with the day to day running of your computer.
Of course if you do plan to run folding at 100%, keep an eye on your temperatures.
I run both of my computers 24/7 at 100% and have no issues whatsoever.

When a WU first starts out the statistics are always stated longer than it would take. Just wait until a few frames are done and it should give you a more accurate estimate, with your chip, a regular 184 point WU should finish in under 2 days if you run it 24/7 like I do.
