Lol, it's fast, but I don't think it's anything great.

Everyone says computers get smaller but they dont they just get faster

If I'm lucky enough to live to a ripe old age I can say to kids of the day "It took 12000 square feet of computer to be as powerfull as your playstation portable 10,heres £100 go buy yourself a bag of sweets":)

    what would you concider great?

Supercomputers like those can be used not just for miltiary purposes but for crunching through medical data to help find cures much quicker than say grid computing, which is the way I know we are doing a small proportion of ours with, the rest is slow and will take years.

Computers like these help to push the development of other technologies forward, as in these "cell" chips which reading up on them will in a few revisions time not need cooling fans but have speeds way past 5ghz and run calculations in the 300gigaflop range, creaping upto the speeds of some of the bottom half of the currect top 500 supercomputers, then to remove ourselfs from silicon the next gen will be organic cpu's.

I personally thing these creations are great :)

Thanks Halo, I was unsure... I've ordered 2, lets see how they play network quake.

I can just imagine a couple of teething problems:

    Engineer: Check the mouse cable..
Engineer2: Which room was it plugged into again ?

I think there is a perception that bigger size is better. More size for the bucks. :D

If you had a desktop that was the size of an Ipod, would you pay the desktop asking price ?

I guess there is a minimum size to accomodate CD/DVD's, and 3.5 inch hard drives.
Unless they go to mini CD/DVD's with the same capacity as current CD\DVD's, and 2.5 inch hard drives.

Floppies have virtually gone, replaced by USB, so need to make room for them.

Laptops are going to full size keyboards (including the Number keypad) and 17 inch or bigger screens, nowadays. Hardly laptops, anymore. Bazza

In the future the worlds fastest computer will still take up 12000 square feet, or more because one guy will create the worlds fastest computer and one guy will say "imagine if we filled 12000 square feet with these puppies and linked them together"

IMO size will always be the biggest factor in super computer land
