About a month and a half ago my bell antivirus let me down and my computer crashed , I called a tech to fix this problem I also added more ram and more more space ,So the computer wipped , partitioned,I believe I got Windows 7 updated and an anti-virus was installed (CA?) It worked fine until I went
web surffing and I got a message saying my FAT 32 File was missing or corrupt ,So I called the tech again ,he came with a disc that restored my computer back to its original state again I lost everything , It worked for a day and ahalf and I got said message again saying my FAT 32 File was missing or corrupt ,I need to know what is going on here :cry

If you keep getting corrupted files, I would download a hard drive utilty to check that your hard drive is not failing.
I will come back with one from majorgeks downloads- but Seagate's tool is very good

I replied in another thread for this problem. Please only make one thread for a problem, otherwise, you confuse us poor geeks! :-D

P.S. Baklogic - does it seem odd to you that Win7 would be using FAT32? That stuck out to me, but I'm not 100% on Win7. :S

the problem is when I get this message I get a blue screen and The computer goes through these files then I get a black screen with the message 'windows cannot open because the fat 32 file is missing or corrupt '
So I do not have a chance to run a test

Thanksfor the nudge- The only way I can see fat32 being involved is if there was a recovery partition, on the hard drive for an earlier version, as some still run XP on fat32.
I suggested the hard drive check, but with your nudge, I would now think its more likely a hacker from the web- getting past firewall, or, antivirus software, as they used to with the old windows messenger that we all turned off.:-o

Well, I could be jumping to the conclusion, having had a registry tool installed on one of my home machines as a result of a web pop-up. rolleyes And again, I'm not 100% on Win7. I'd expect there is some FAT32 file there for backwards compatibility. And the recovery partition is a good thought; the problem seems to reoccur after a recovery install, so...

At any rate, I think we need to know more before we jump to treatment.

Clean install - not an OEM install would be beneficial, in my opinion.

Might be worth a look here, as I inadvertably put the Vista CHKDSK LINK in previously- this is the link for Windows 7 CHKDSK- really just the other way we used for XP
    http://www.w7forums.com/use-chkdsk-check-disk-t448.html
If you scrool down it does in fact refer in the list to fat32- I never installed , or, used fat32 when I used Windows 7.

As sometimes we tend to mis-type, I think you are asking --

"there was a recovery partion and when did we turn off windows messenger"
    If you are-
In previous versions of Windows- like XP, If you click start, then right click "My Computer"- the left click manage,
Then click the services and applications, then click services to open the pane up
Scroll down the list, and double click on the messenger tab on the right, click stop this service, then click disable. That was the old "backdoor" that caught you if you did not have an antivirus installed, and registered your Windows on-line- ther were various pop-ups telling your pc was infected, and other such frightening expressions.
If you have a recovery partition on your pc/laptop, then this will be affected when you change the MBR(master boot record), and might not work to re-instate your pc/laptop to factory condition, should you require it.
Owing to Vista's boot being different, this can interfere with recovery partitions, and Windows 7 can also cause problems with hidden partitions. These recovery partions have often been in the fat32 format (I know the Acer 2450 series are, and if you lose"contact" with that partition, and want to go back, say to XP, then you have some juggling to do.
I sorted mine out with the ltest version of Disc Wizard, that allows you to undelete even older partitions, but it can be a bit hairy, as you have to decide which partitionto lose , when "rolling back".
I managed to roll back to factory, through a networked Acer, as the installation on there contained folders that I could not delete, , and used valuable hard drive space. This used a fat32 hidden partition to aid recovery.
I hope that is helpful, and not useless information, for you, or, anyone else who might be interested.
    Little note:
If you wondered what forensic science can do, with old hard drives- this should give you an idea- the only safe old hard drive is a melted, or, completely bent internal disc.:major
