Have a Buffalo 500 GB external USB drive that has about 20 folders on it with about 290 GB of data in them. One folder, Projects, has come up empty after a simple save to the drive of a Word doc. Upon reboot of Vista Business, the OS wants to run chkdsk and I said no, ran Recuva, and of the 570,000+ missing or deleted files it found, no Projects folder or files.
I'm wondering if I let Vista do chkdsk if it will repair and I can then Recuva the files? or if there is a better solution here.
Thank you for any suggestion or direction.

    Hi

Had that issue before and yes I would run chkdsk on the drive as for some reason and USB drives can be susceptible to data errors at times.
