I have a 100 gig HDD that is partioned into 2 equal parts. One part (C) is NTFS and the other (D) is FAT32. Is there a way to make 'D' drive NTFS also without having to go through the re-formatting process? Is it possible to change the file system without creating too much chaos? Thanks!!

I would think youd have to reformat to change the file system like that. People here(Halo) always seem to come up with something crazy though, so maybe wait for others to come by and see if they have any other ideas. :)

Thanks King! At this point I'm willing to try something crazy if it would mean NOT having to re-format:cry

    Hi Stubby

Crazzzy asssss idea is using from a command prompt convert d: /fs:ntfs its will convert and not "alledged" corrupt data, but always backup but it works ok but doesnt give a best NTFS cluster size but the standard fat32 one of 512k over ntfs 4k but you do gain the benefits of ntfs.

Main KB on this is here

    X-posted with Halo ;)

It's been possible since XP (pre SP1 was very buggy though), see the MS article for XP.

You're right King, ONLY Halo could come up with that!!roflmao However, just one question, I'm still running Win2000Pro (SP4), will your idea still work? I know, I know, I need to come out of the 'stone age,' but I've never had a problem with Win2000. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!:-D

    Hi Stubby

If you backup your data on that partition I see no reason it should not work, no guarantees but command should work in w2k as its an old ntfs convert command structure.

Please stand aside Hrlow2, I don't want to spill innocent blood! I'm hunting for King Steve and Halohttp://bestsmileys.com/angry1/25.gif:gunsroflmao IT WORKED! Seriously, I followed your instructions and it worked like a charm, thanks Halo;) It only took about 2 minutes for the conversion. Thanks Hrlow2 for the offer of the HDD, but it looks like I won't be needing it after all;) I'm glad that Win2000 is working out great for ya, but I was wondering there for awhile. Well Halo, it looks like you have another satisfied customer;)
