Fatal System error keeps appearing, Help!

Starting a few months ago, my computer would just go to the "blue screen of death." I have Windows XP and have no idea what's causing this to happen, other than what the message says on the blue screen:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x c0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

Any suggestions or insight? Please help, and thanks.

 

I would try Dr Watson, a diagnostic tool that's been included with Windows since 95.

If you want to diagnose what the problem is, have a look at this from MICROSOFT.

You could also try a repair.

Enable your bios to boot from CD Rom, put your Windows CD in and reboot.

Press Enter to start the process. Don't choose to repair using the recovery console.

Again, don't choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R". You don't want the recovery console.

Accept the licence agreement, select the Windows installation to repair and select R to begin the repair.

Another option is to try "System File Checker". Go to Run, type in sfc /scannow and have your Windows CD ready and it will do the rest.

The problem has returned, and its winlogon.exe; i can fix it, but it seems it will never stay fixed. I have purged my system of all spyware/viruses and still it becomes corrupted. I really dont want to reformat my Windows partition, so any help would be appreciated.
