Faulty Memory Channel?

Hi all, I'm doing my second build which essentially uses the same parts as the first and when I just tried to power up for the first time, the computer ran but there was nothing on the screen. The case is a little different and I couldn't find out where to plug in the included card reader, but that's another story. After googling around for 'new computer build screen won't display', I saw lots of stuff that I'm too sick to mess with but saw one mention about memory, so I tried switching memory modules.

When I took the first memory module out, the screen showed up and I was able to get to BIOS. When switching the memory around, again no screen. So after fiddling around some, it turns out that both memory modules work, but only the second lane on the mobo will display a screen. That is, when either module is plugged into the first lane, no screen, but when either module is plugged into the second lane, the screen displays. The mobo is a MSI h81m-p33, and the memory modules are ADATA XPG V1 8GB Desktop Memory (2x4GB). Any ideas on why only one memory lane would work? Just a wonky mobo? 4 gb of RAM is really all I need, no gaming or anything, but I'd obviously like to be able to use both modules. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for any help.

I'd get an RMA for the mobo and send it back for replacement. There's obviously a faulty memory slot on it since both your modules work in the other slot but not in that one.
