I just cleared my cookies and some of my desktop icons changed to the IE blue icon. I think there is a link to a magazine that lets you download and get your icons(Like Google, UrbanLegends etc) to show up again. I HAD the site in one of my Favorites folders but, it bit the dust!
    Thanks for your help.

I'm not familiar with the site you've mentioned. But as a tip, if you go to a site that has a favicon, if you edit the site's address in the address bar, add (without quotes) "favicon.ico" to the end of the home page of the site (e.g. www.majorgeeks.com/favicon.ico). Any site that has one will display the icon.

Once displayed you can right click on the icon and save it as, for example, majorgeeks.ico (or whatever you want to name it) in your desired folder. Then you can change the properties of your favorite link, and click on Change Icon and browse to the folder containing the icon and click on OK. Now the favorite link will have the new icon.

If you clear out cookies, then this method of setting up the favicon should not loose them. ;)

I have used Microsoft's TweakUI in the past for repairing icons and it seemed to do an OK job. I am not sure which version of Windows you are running but if it is XP, this is the link, if it is any other version then this is the link.

Or you can delete the bookmark, clear your cache, then go to that page again and wait for the icon to load in IE, and then when it does, add it to your favorites, and it should appear. If it doesn't load the page again, that might do it.

I use Firefox & I've yet to lose an icon. Even when clearing cookies, I've not lost one yet.

Yikes, I thought y'all were talking about the darn desktop icons....

I agree with suesman to keep the IE fav's icon you gotta do this and that, Firefox on the other hand retains all without any problems.
But for IE one thing that used to work for me was to save them icons in the same favorites folder/sub folder as the shortcut itself and then right-click the fav in questions then 'Properties' then 'Change icon'....
