this has been going on for awhile (including the most current version, 3.5.5). i'll visit a website (generally those already bookmarked) and a number of the favicons will arbitrarily change to whatever the last site i was on has.

not all of them do it, but enough so it's become a little irritating. for instance, the BigFish favicon changed to Kaspersky's because i was just there (actually, still have it open), but i haven't been to BigFish...going now...still shows as the Kaspersky favicon (closed my Kaspersky tab). others just go blank (looks like a "page"). i've got several Dell links and 1 shows the Dell favicon, the others show as blank pages. i've got the following extensions & plugins.

    Extensions:
    AdBlock Plus
    Better Privacy
    Colorful Tabs
    Compact Menu 2
    Download Status Bar
    DownloadHelper
    Flagfox
    Java Quick Starter
    Kaspersky URL Advisor
    LongURL Mobile Expander
    Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant
    Remove Cookie(s) for Site
    Right To Click
    Screengrab
    TACO
    Tiny URL Generator
    Toolbar Buttons
    Tree Style Tab
    User Agent Switcher
    Yes PopUps

    Plugins:
    iTunes Application Detector
    Java Deployment Toolkit
    Java Platform SE 6 U16
Microsoft DRM 9.0.0.4503 (DRM Netscape Network Object)
Microsoft DRM 9.0.0.4503 (DRM Store Netscape Plugin
    Move Streaming Media Player
    Mozilla Default Plugin
    Quick Time Plug-in
    RealArcade NPAPI Plugin (disabled)
    Shockwave Flash
Windows Media Player Plugin Dynamic Link Library
    Windows Presentation Foundation
    Windows Presentation Foundation 3.5.30729.1

can probably restart my browser & see what happens...off to do that now.

edit: did that and now the BigFish bookmark is showing a Google favicon. a lot of them are all messed up. Kaspersky's also showing a Google favicon & i haven't gone back.

Switch and try to see if favicons change in Firefox safe mode. If they don't then it's an extension.

To find out which extension is causing the change in favicons, disable all of them in the regular Firefox and enable them one by one, checking out in between which one could be the culprit.

Hope the above will solve it.

And I thought I had a lot (11) of extensions. LOL The above will take some time.

tried changing my homepage from Mozilla's Google to regular Google and still messing with the favicons, so that's not it.

oh, and i do NOT have any malware issues. i'm squeaky clean.

oops, was posting while you were answering, oma. i'll try that and report back if it's not my addons, if it is, i'll just say thanks.

okay, i disabled all my extensions first, restarted Firefox, didn't fix the problem. then i disabled all my plugins, restarted Firefox, still didn't fix the problem. doesn't appear to be any of my extensions or plugins (i actually uninstalled Right to Click and User Agent Switcher because neither worked as they were supposed to).

a lot of the favicons change, but some don't...for instance, majorgeeks doesn't change. several others don't change, but there are too many to post; and the ones that do change are also too many to post.

ultimately, it's a very minor annoyance, but i'd like to fix it if at all possible. if not, i can put up with it...it's not like anything else is affected. it's just the appearance.

Try clearing your cache then visiting the site with the wrong favicon and see if it fixes it.

I know there is a favicon changer addon that will manually let you fix the favicons but I believe clearing cache will do it.

that didn't work. did a google and only mention i found was from 2004 and was regarding IE, although firefox 1.7 was mentioned. one suggestion was to delete all bookmarks:eek and i REALLY don't want to do that. what? save all my bookmarks into a txt file, delete them ,then go visit all those sites? i don't THINK so. LOL

thanks, but i should probably just ignore it since it's just a cosmetic thing...unless someone has another idea for me to try.

If you can take one more addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7849

Favicon picker will let you reset any favicon by right-clicking the bookmark selecting Properties and then reset. Then visit the site. At least it worked just now for me. I occasionally get a google favicon attached to various bookmarks.

I noticed in the comments for that addon it said useful for clearing FF's favicon cache but I don't see that option. It may not be useful for you if it is constantly happening but I used it a few years ago when I had that problem and the changes seemed to hold for quite a while.

i just tried it and made things worse. ended up changing Kaspersky's favicon to a "5" no clue what that was. LOL

i'll muddle through & just not worry about it any more. thanks for you help, i appreciate it.
