It's that time of year again to blow the dust off the seasonal favorites. So what are your favorites at Christmas? Mine are...

    White Christmas
It's A Wonderful Life (I've got the probably rare colorized version on VHS. I should probably find some way to dub that to DVD before it rots, as there will likely never be any more color versions for sale)
    Miracle on 34th Street
The original Grinch with Boris Karloff
    We're No Angels
    National Lampoon Christmas Vacation

    And of course....

Bill Murray made a pretty good Scrooge. I liked Lionel Barrymore better, but then I'm an old fart. ;)

Make that 2 votes for Bad Santa!

That was one of the funniest movies ever. I laughed through the entire film.

Of course, can't forget A Christmas Story. That must be one of the most played movies ever. It was on last night, and they'll probably play it a hundred more times between now and Christmas.

Are you talking about The Snowman? It's one of my top favorites, (and I love the music! ) along with The Grinch, (the orginal with Boris Karloff) A Charlie Brown Christmas, It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown, (not as good as the first one, but still very good) and A Christmas Story...I want that lamp!

I know I loved The Grinch cartoon, but I agree the live action movie with Jim Carrey was not bad. It just doesn't hold a candle to the classic cartoon. The others that's already been listed I loved are...

It's A Wonderful Life (MUST be black & white else it loses it's character)
    Scrooged
A Christmas Carol (cannot remember which version I liked since there's a lot out there)
A Christmas Story (when I'm in the mood)
The Santa Clause 1 & 2 (first was better)
    The Charlie Brown Christmas

As for the ones that haven't been mentioned..
Blackadder's Christmas Carol (yeah, I know it's not much of a movie, but funny!)
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (BBC version since the movie's not out yet. Can't wait!)

Anyway, either I never did see or I don't remember It's Christmas Time Charlie Brown because I cannot think of what it was about. I'm hoping I get to see that this year when I find out when it's on.

    Well that's my 2 cents. :)

Funny this thread should be started, as a co-worker and I were discussing christmas movies. I was telling her how,in England, every Christmas they show The Great Escape.....it's a classic. She'd never seen it, so I described the story outline to her. She looked at me strangely and said "That's a Christmas movie in England?" Hehe...I guess it has nothing to do with Christmas...in fact it's quite tragic and sickening...but in the UK they screen it every season *shrugs*

I used to ride around in a sidecar outfit like McQueen's when I was carrying my first son!

We should send Michael Newdow to England for Christmas. Sounds like you've managed to remove all vestiges of anything Christian... at least from your TV viewing. ;)

I know a lot of fans are looking out for the Doctor Who Christmas Special (memememememe... hope I get to see it soon), or is that right? I've heard some people don't like the new series.

Ah well. Thanks for the link Halo!

It a Wonderful Life is always played, and I still like the sentiments and message. Yup, we get The Great Escape every year too. Just makes me want to "escape", and go on vacation, heh!
Scrooged and the Karlof version of Grinch isn't bad too.
They always seem to play Jesus Christ, Super Star at Christmas, for some reason too.

Yeah, we're getting double, back-to-back episodes of Dr.Who for the Christmas/New Year period too. They just played the last Peter Davidson one today actually. On Monday, the next Doctor regeneration occurs.

Oh, and don't forget the BBC's ever faithful Bridge over the River Kwai...another extremely inappropriate "christmas" movie ;)

For nostalgia, there's Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (We're from the land of Misfit Toys, who wants a train with square wheels?)and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.....But they are mostly to remind me of watchng them as a kid. They are amusing to watch, but not all that great. And I positively don't like Frosty or Frostry Returns....Lame!

I would have to say that "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" is the best christmas movie ever. However I love watching "Ernest Saves Christmas" to because Jim Varney is funny to.

Clarke W. Griswold is so dumb he is hilarious. It's a classic that I watch year round. HAHA!

Muppets Christmas Carol is my all time fave.
I have it on DVD and we watch it over & over.
It's full of neat little things. One of the shops is called Micklewhites - which is Michael Caine's original surname. :)
