Favorites And Favorites Lists Keep Growing

Using latest Windows 10 on HP desktop and laptop. Both of my lists in Favorites and Favorites Bar keep growing by adding duplicate entries followed by (1) or (2) and up to (6) for some. They number into the low hundreds. It apparently occurs with no intentional action on my part as I rarely add a new one anymore. Any suggestions as to why this might be occurring and what I can do to stop it? Assistance greatly appreciated!

 

A very obvious possibility is malware. Have you checked?

 

I scan both regularly with Malwarebytes and Superspyware and keep Windows definitions up to date. No problems for years with such, nor any evidence. Win 10 Anniversary installed on desktop on new clean hard drive about a month ago. Both comps share the same problem. Just spent a long hour deleting all of these dupes from Favorites Bar on laptop. Will make a copy of the clean list as a backup and use it as a replacement for existing lists on computers and try to start clean. Thanks for the suggestion!

 

Could be a browser add-on malfunctioning. Try restarting your browser with no add-ons.

 

I do have an iPad and checked the settings and have nothing on related to Bookmarks or that migh have relation to such. Thanks very much for digging this out for me. Anything is worth a try. Nothing on iPhone either.
