Faxing with ADSL

I have a friend who used to have a dial up modem that he used for internet connection and to receive faxes. Now he has ADSL, and has the unfiltered ADSL line going to his dial up modem and then to the ADSL modem. The reason for this is that he wants to be able to still receive faxes via his pc. Will he be able to receive faxes this way. I have read somewhere that it is possible but during fax transmission he will lose sync with the ADSL, but after transmission all is well again?

Is this true? With this setup ADSL works, its just we haven't tried fax transmissions yet

 

Put a splitter on the Tel.'s wall jack, take one Tel. wire with a filter and plug it to the Dialup modem.

Use second wire, without a filter, to plug to the DSL Modem.

 

just wondering though, will the fax software thru the dial up modem cause any problems if it is left the way it is, ie without filters and with the ADSL modem directly connected to the dial up modem. The ADSL seems fine, its just that we haven't been able to test faxes yet?

 

Thise issue has nothing to do with fax or any other software, it is a Hardware thing.

The Dialup modem works with the regular dialup signal.

The DSL adds a specail High Frequency Signal that rides on the Diaup Signal.

If you do not filter the DialUp from the DSL Signal the Dialup would not work since the DSL Siganl would mess up the Dialup.
