I am not sure if this is a sensible question of not (it may just be a case of personal opinion) but I thought I would ask the experts........

Am I better off running Firefox or Explorer 7?

    Thanks Doc Marten

Some would say Firefox is more secure. Not positive about that, though

Firefox is more secure in that it won't script ActiveX at all.
However, IE7 isn't bad, because by default, it will prompt the user to allow or outright deny ActiveX scripting. (Silly users can change this, though)

Sadly, ActiveX is such a powerful language, it is hard to do without. Windows Updates, for example, uses ActiveX to deliver patches.

But aside from that, Firefox is just as prone to security holes in its own code. Its a fact of life. Software engineers would need the foresight of gods to be able to anticipate every potential avenue of attack, so I would say, yes, it is a matter of personal opinion. Whatever you do, just keep IE handy for the times you need it.

My personal opinion is that Opera is the best browser. It's the fastest out of the box (although Firefox can be MADE faster with tweaking), has all the features you'd expect from the others, as well as an inbuilt bit torrent client.

    How can you do this?

    With the fasterfox extension.

Or, if you're using Linux, there is the modified build of Firefox, called SwiftFox, that can also use this extension!

I totally agree with the above and Mada, yours is the best post I have ever seen on this subject of browsers, just had to comment on that.

I will add that while a browser is one part of security to your surfing habbits, its only a small part as the majority of malware comes from what you download or open in emails etc.... so its best not to feel that because your using a slightly more secure browser your safe from malware, your not.
