Ok, I don't know if anyone will be able to help me, but here is my situation. I work in an office that has about 150 computers on a network spread out in three different buildings. Recently, a fire caused our computer resources people to have to rig up some temporary computers that they had purchased from a state surplus sale. The first day that the employees use these computers, our system goes down with a virus. Our computer people claim that it was a virus that had been dormant on our server and just suddenly became active and it was only a coincidence that it happened at the same time as they installed these "previously used" computers. Anyway, their solution to the problem was to immediately remove internet and e-mailing capability from every employee. Then, they went to every computer and flattened them, without allowing us to backup any of our information. All contacts, any personal items, such as music files, all gone. They claimed that it was the only way to ensure that the problem was fixed. Now mind you, the head of our computer operations department is not the smartest man alive. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time to get his job. He had no formal computer training and when the position presented itself, he went and got a two-year degree and they gave him the job. Very frustrating!

So now, we have no e-mail or internet. However, I have noticed that my immediate supervisors do have internet capability. So, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I have to do to set my computer up to access the internet. I know that I can get the IP address from my supervisor's computer if I had to, I just need to know where to look. If you are able to help, I (and my fellow colleagues that I would help with this information) would be tremendously appreciative.

Thanks for helping the little guys,
    - D

I can't contact the IT people....they are the ones that are trying to keep us from having access. However, I know that certain individuals are allowed to access a certain server that has internet access. I was hoping someone could walk me through what to do to gain access to the 'supervisor's" server, or at least point me in the direction of a website or book that might be able to help me. Thanks.

This is a form of hacking a company network, so I would say that such things are not discussed on this forum.

I'd just bribe your friendly IT guy with a box of donuts and see what happens! ;)
