File access denied sporadically

Hi all:

A Happy New Year to all (while I'm tearing what little hair I have left out!)

I am trying to transfer some data folders from an older laptop running XP Pro to a netbook running Win 7 Starter Edition using an Ethernet Crossover cable. I have been able to do so just fine for several folders. However, I am having problems with a couple of folders where it says I don't have permission to access the location.

In one, it transferred all the files except for one file that is a jpeg. I can open it just fine in XP. When I try to access it from the machine running Win 7, it says that "Windows Photo Vieweer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permission to access the file location". When I again right-click it from the Win 7 machine through the connecting cable, on the Security tab it says that "You do not have permission to view or edit this object's perrmission settings", and when I click on Advanced (in Security tab) and go to Owner, it says that it is "Unable to display current owner". Other files in the folder do not have this problem, and I can transfer them over to the Win 7 laptop without any problem.

The same is true in a couple of other folders, where I seem to run into problems sporadically (with pdf files) and get the same information when I examine the files.

Unfortunately, this information does not seem to be visible in XP.

I even tried to see if it would work by turning off the UAC in Win 7, but no joy.

What would you suggest I do so that I can transfer these files over? IT would be really nice if I could do it as some kind of correction en masse, but, if not, how do I fix each problem file on the XP file given that this information is not visible in XP?

I'm using the Windows Firewall in each machine, and AVG Free, although I doubt if that could be the cause of the problem.
