    Hello.

I can't seem to get anything to sync with this document which was emailed to me, and which ends in ".docx".

I downloaded FreeFileViewer (which claims to handle that extension), I have Foxit Reader (and downloaded the "Creator" which Foxit said I needed to view this document), and I also have Open Office, but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance...

It's going to open with Word 2007 or later, word 2003 (with Office compatibility pack) or you can use Open Office to open it, which is a free program.

And, if you have access to Windows 7, Wordpad will open it.

Thanks Kestrel, but I have OO, and I am not sure which of the feature programs within the program will open it for me...I've tried several, to no avail?

Or just need to know how to find it in the "Set Associations" window/panel?

I've attached the screens where I'm getting hung-up...

Beautiful - thank you very much - it's actually listed as "swriter" (for whatever reason), and I simply overlooked it being labeled that way.

    Thank you again ! :wave;):major

Ok...I just went through this sissy-assed little drill about a week ago, of pointing at little things and clicking on little things, but still it seems I have the problem.

Is there a way, to set Open Office Writer as the default for these sorts of programs (these types of files?)? I've tried every which way I can possibly see to do so - to no avail.

I think I should be able to set it up so when I receive one of these files I can just OPEN IT, and not have to spend 15 minutes searching-around for something that WILL open it, correct?

This time it's a SIMPLE .doc (or .doc\) file that I cannot open ?!?

It's the first thing I set in the Tools > Options when I install OO Glenn, can't talk you through it right now because I don't have it installed here.

I think this covers part of it (it's for an older version), the latest version will be similar, just keep drilling through the options there, you'll find it :)

Alternatively, in Explorer, right-click the file you want to open and select Open with > point it to the OO prog required and check the 'always open with' box.

Thanks very much...I'm actually updating OO now, so we'll see...I quickly gave-up on the Explorer directions you were so kind to include...as I'm dealing with Vista, and it just plain seems different (as per usual) from the way it "should be" (2000/XP).

Thanks again, I "may" have to return here if I have trouble (and I do sooooo often, indeed, seem to have trouble.... :(
