file assoc problems XP

I am still having problems with file assoc.
i fixed my .exe and my shortcuts but i dont know how

when you use search and change it from <all files and folders> to whatever you want from the drop down box. I would say 75% of my options are gone (from the dropdown)
what happened?

 

Here's a batch file that will restore default XP file associations:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_fileassoc.zip

But it won't restore any 3rd party app associations if those are broken.

I am still having problems with my .bat and .msc files
there are more but one step at a time

 

Open a command prompt and run:

assoc .bat=batfile
-and-
assoc .msc=MSCFile

 

"windows cannot find 'assoc' "

 

now all my shortcuts and programs look like this:



without death.

 

and I can no longer get all my display properties when I right click the desktop. I only get to change the theme.

Please remember how you fixed the above...because I've messed up mine.
.lnk and .exe both don't know what there assoc are..

I'm pulling my hair out
