I run Windows XP, and I store almost all my files on two external drives, one used as a backup.

As one's a backup, they should both have the same files, but because of sloppiness on my part over the years, drive A has files that drive B doesn't, and drive B has files that drive A doesn't. And because many of the files are in folders that are nested several folders deep, it's nearly impossible to know which drive has what.

So my question is, is there a program that can allow my to connect both drives, and will search each drive and automatically swap files between them until both drives have everything?

I'd be grateful for any advice anyone can give here.

You can use a sync program for this. I use Synback Free, which gives you all the options you will need in order to get these two drives aligned without data loss.

    Thanks for that advice, Earthling.

I'd never heard of syncing programs before, but this looks like exactly what I need.

Yep, create as many backup profiles as you need, give each its own schedule and your backups will just look after themselves. Microsoft's SyncToy is similar, you might want to try that too - see which is best for you.

If you want to pay for a good program get FolderMatch from Salty Brine, it does have a free trail.
