Are there any programs that can restore older versions of an existing file?

I have a word doc that i regularly update but recently i noticed that some of the data i entered is gone. The last time i opened the file the data was there. So the file hasn't been deleted, just some recently entered data isn't there.

Please help, exams are next week!!!

Do you have automatic backups turned on? Or automatic recovery? Or restore points (save the new work to floppy first before you run this).

I don't have automatic backups or automatic recovery turned on that i know of, how would i find out, but i think i have restore points set. I thought restore points don't back up data, see below. I'm using XP Pro by the way.

    Q. How is System Restore different from Backup?

    A. System Restore monitors only a core set of specified system and application file types (e.g. .exe, .dll etc), while Backup Utility typically backs up all files including users personal data files, ensuring a safe copy stored either on the local disk or to another medium. System Restore does not monitor changes to or recover users' personal data files such as documents, graphics, e-mail, and so on. While system data contained in System Restore's restore points are available to restore to for only a limited period (restore points older than 90 days are deleted by default), backups made by the Backup Utility can be recovered at any time.

Well assuming you are using Word then automatic recovery location can be found under Tools>options>File Locations. And Under Tools> Options>Save you will find out whther you have automatic backups turned on. If you do they create a .wbk file which is effectivelt the version of a document just before the last save.

As for the system restore I forgot that it isn't a real system restore (I use GoBack myself which does restore evrything.
