I have 2 PCs and 1 laptop networked at home
I also have a DLink wireless router with 4 output ports and a 5 port Netgear Gigabit switch. I have Output #1 of the Dlink feeding port #5 on the Netgear Gigabit switch, PCs hooked up to ports 1 & 2 of the switch, laptop to #3. If the PCs and laptop are hooked up to the switch I have no problems sharing or using internet, but I cannot share files from the laptop wirelessly (is that a real word?) :confused

I want to be able to share files wirelessly to/from the laptop through the Router and Gigabit switch but this only works if the laptop is connected to the ethernet cable to the Gigabit switch or if the PCs are hooked up to the router, but my PCs will lose the Gigabit transfer rate

Is it possible to set this up so that I can send/recieve wirelessly and keep the PCs hooked up to the switch instead of directly through the Dlink router?

    Thanks in advance!

You should be able to connect a router port (LAN, not WAN) to any switch port (uplink or LAN). If this doesn't work, you may need a special crossover ethernet cable instead of a regular patch ethernet cable, although modern equipment can usually use either. You can also get a crossover converter.

You can also have trouble if the cable is over 150 feet or so, but I doubt this applies to you.
