This file shredder and sadly I cannot test it out as it is oldish and not working with vista but from reading its spec sheet the main things it clears are the waste recycle bin, temp folders, internet temps and cookies and recent used links, recent used links are not the actual file but the reference to using it in another application like Office Word, Windows Media Player, its like your last 10 or so opened files,

also it does what is consolidation of free space as when you delete a file its not actually deleted, a flag is added to let the operating system know that if needed it can us this space, until this data is overwritten the data is still their, so consolidation or free space wiping occures and can last for ages on a large hard drive.

So what makes you think you have lost data, do some applications not work or have you lost files?


Which Windows version are you using? if you can right click your C drive and choose properties and one of the tabs is Previous Versions you maybe able to recover files if indeed any are deleted


Warning in using these types of applications is that using methods like DoD 5220.22-M and NAS 7 pass or above will make your data non recoverable as the wipe passes scramble the data up and overwrite that space many times.
