    Greetings fellow geeks!

I was curious if any of you out there knows of a good program that allows file transfers locally and over a WAN with pause/resume capabilities? And possibly a verify feature.
    Any thoughts are appreciated.
    Thanks!

Bit torrent for one. FTP can also do it, as most servers support pause/resume. What more do you need then those two.

Thank you for your suggestion, but I am looking for more of an Admin tool kind of application. I have BitTorrent and an FTP client but neither are what I am looking for. I need WAN functionality.
I am a computer support tech for the company i work for and I need a program to allow me to transfer files from one client machine to another from client to a server and vice versa as well as server to server transfers. We have novell utilities for file transfer but it does not support resuming.
Example of what i would use this for. I create/edit software. I have an ISO image i make on my machine. I then copy it to the server at my location. Then I copy it from my server to a server in another state using the VPN (so its like the destination server is local to me here.) so that the other techs can use the software i created/edited. Or i wouild copy from the server to their client computer. either way. I am copying large files and dont always have time to sit for the entire transfer and thats where the pause/resume feature comes in. I guess what I'm looking for isnt out there yet, or I'm not saying what i need clear enough or with the correct wording.
Again all suggestions are appreciated whether a solution is provided or not. the fact you took the time to answer is good enough for me.

OK, I'm actually a little confused here.

First off let me just say FTP and BT works fine over a WAN. I mean technically the internet is a WAN.

As for your situation, you need to be able to copy from a client to another client? It's not really doable, unless you have setup something on both client machines in advance.

Installing on a client is no big deal. Thats what zenworks is for. :-Þ I really am more interested if such a program exists. costs and whats requireed to implement are not a worry. Thanks so far. you guys are great

If you can install stuff on the client computers then simply install an ftp server on them so any of the other computers can connect. You don't even need to install an ftp client as any standard web browser can act as an ftp client.

It's what you need to do, to make it work the way you're asking. It's going to have to be some kind of server installed on each computer, it doesn't have to be ftp, but to be hoenst it's most likely yhe easiest one to install in such a situation.

Just so I understand what's being asked, I'm thinking out loud by writing this...

I assume you're simply transferring the large file to a shared folder on a remote computer through a Windows network, correct?

I'm a little weak on networking, but I assume that if the transfer is not completed, by default Windows either:

    A) doesn't put the partial file into the shared folder at all on the remote machine, or...

    B) if it does put a partial file there, Windows doesn't allow you to resume where you left off...

If you could clarify which scenario (if either) is correct above, that would be great.

I guess either way, since pause/resume isn't natively built-in to the remote computer(s), you'd pretty much have to install some sort of transfer client on all of the computers in question, not just on yours.

Maybe that's what your asking for and I just don't realize it?

Finally someone hits the nail on the head with their hammer of knowledge. Yes Wavetar. I really only need pause/resume functionality. Neither windows or novell will give me that feature. (heck, novell doesn't even give you a progress bar on a file copy. You just have to wait for the window to close) Scenario A would be correct if using windows to transfer files and scenario b would be when using novell.

There is a program called Total Copy...I don't think it is here on Major Geeks put if you do a google search you will find it...It allows you to start and stop when moving files around...not sure if this is what you are looking for but it is a start

Thank you very much! it's simple, but effective. I like it. just the kind of thing i was looking for. I was hoping for something more indepth. but simplicity is best in many cases. Thanks again.

if anyone finds something else that works. please chime in. but for now. this does the trick!
