File Website Question

Hello.
I do not use any file sharing programs for the obvious reasons. But I wanted to ask if anyone here ever had a problem with the site known as rapidshare? I am not too familiar with this using these types of sites and don't want to download a file and then get hi-jacked or spyware or something. I wanted to view one file from the site and would like to know before viewing it if anyone here ever had any problems afterwards. Thanks for any assistance.

 

RapidShare and many other similar sites can be a great way to share large files or images that are to large to send through email. RapidShare is frequently used in one of my graphics groups for images that are to large for email and for the convenience of those on dial up. RapidShare itself has never been an issue. What has been an issue is the person uploading the file. Always scan anything you download before unzipping it and you should be fine.

Sitesend is another good one as is yousendit for sharing larger files. Megaupload has recently started adding porn pop-ups so I'd stay away from that one.

You are saying that once the download is complete, the file should be scanned with the anti-virus software prior to opening, am I correct? I found that the files are in the .rar format. Is there a utility available that can open them, preferably one that is free? Thank you again.
