Filenames with a "~" on it....

Hello everyone,

Pls, this is my first post, so go easy on me...

As the thread name says, I got a game with several filenames with the tilde "~" sign in their names...I did some google and yahoo researchs and find out some programs do that to the filename when he is too long. Great. Now, does anyone knows a way to restore the original filename? Any program, msdos command, anything at all?

Any help will be most appreciate.

Hi sorry dont know to much about this myself, i take it you are talking about dos games, that normally appears in dos file names its a short cut of types it shortens the file name because it is to long, sorry dont know anything more about it, have you tried just using it in the command line as for as i remember thats what i used to do.

Actually, is not an old game, its LOTR War of the ring. After I finish downloading the iso, all the files inside the iso, which were longer then 8 characters got the tilde sign. I just notice that some days after, since i burned and didnt check the files. And i edleted the iso, so i couldnt check if the original files were like that. I had some similar experience with isobuster b4, but i just need to extract again the files and overwrite it. I dont want to download the whole agme again, i was just hoping i could get a program which could restore the original file name or somthing like that. Anyway, will still be looking.... thx for ur help
